Comedy Central has re-upped its biggest ongoing series through 2016. The Viacom network said today that it would purchase three more seasons of Tosh.0, with the popular series' just-inked sixth season to premiere on Feb. 18.
Hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh, the show averages a 2.2 rating in its target demo and is among Comedy Central's highest rated. “I am extremely fortunate and very grateful that I can continue to work with such fun and talented people on a very supportive network," said Tosh in a statement. "Sorry for the lack of snark—I will leave that open for the comments section.” (Everyone's a comedian. Programming honcho Kent Alterman said he wanted to give the long-running series "time to connect" with the Comedy Central audience.)
Tosh has multiple projects on Comedy Central at the moment, including animated show Brickleberry, which has been green-lit for its third season; he's also been featured three times in stand-up specials on the network. After a few rounds at pay cablers Showtime and HBO (both the former's Dave's Old Porn and the latter's The Life and Times of Tim were canceled), the comedian seems to have found a long-term home.
With the exception of stalwarts like South Park, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, Comedy has been shyer on the multiseason renewal front in recent years. Current series like Key & Peele, Kroll Show and Workaholics have been renewed a season at a time; the last time the network made a multiseason renewal deal for a show that had fewer than 10 seasons under its belt was with sci-fi cartoon comedy Futurama in 2011, which it signed for two seasons. The Tosh news is a major vote of confidence in the series.
